Frequently Asked Questions

What are your rates?

Our rates are based on the needs of each household. Please email us or give us a call at 202-681-4003 to discuss your pet care needs.

Is District Pet Care Insured and Bonded?

Yes, we are insured and bonded through Pet Sitters Associates.

Are your caregivers employees or contractors?

All walkers and caregivers are employees. We thoroughly screen and background check all employees. In addition to being covered under our insurance and bonding policy, all of our team members receive the same training and CPR/Pet First Aid certification. This means you can trust that your furbaby will receive the same level of care, no matter who visits them.

Will I have the same sitter for every visit?

We think its valuable for your pets to form a relationship with your sitter. We will always do our best try to send the same sitter for the duration of your trip. Since we work as a team to provide care 365 days per year, there may be instances where we need to send someone other than your primary sitter. All of our team members receive the same training and are Pet First Aid and CPR certified.

How will my Caregiver know what to do for my pet and where everything is?

In addition to an initial consultation with someone from our team, we utilize software that ensures everyone has access to the exact same information. You’ll be able to add as much detail as needed so that your furbaby receives the exact care needed, no matter what.

My neighbor wants to help care for my pet too while I’m away. Is that ok?

Put simply, no. District Pet Care will not share any caregiving responsibilities with anyone outside of District Pet Care. This is to ensure the safety of your pet(s) and to be positive that our team stays on top of any health issues and changes that can come up (like appetite changes or unusual bathroom habits). Our insurance and bonding does not cover anyone outside of our team who enters your home.

How many keys do I need to provide?

We prefer to have 2 complete sets of keys for every home.  If you have a lockbox or 24 hour concierge that can give access then we may be able to make an exception. We will discuss your specific situation with us at your Meet and Greet. Issues with keys or lockboxes will be subject to a lockout fee for each occurance.

Can you help with my last minute trip?

If you have already set up a District Pet Care account and we have copies of your keys, we can likely help. If you have never used our services before, we will try our very best to accommodate short notice requests . We will need to set up a time to meet you and your furbabies before you leave, so contact us as soon as you know you’ll be traveling. Additional fees will apply for services scheduled less than 24 hours before the first visit.

What If I need to cancel?

We understand that plans can change quickly. In order to avoid any cancelation charges, please provide at least 24 hours notice for non-holidays and seven days notice for Federal Holidays. For midday dog walks, we ask that you let us know by 9am on the day of cancelation, at the latest.
